Do I need to live in Wallis to get help from Post 200?

No. We serve veterans throughout Fort Bend, Austin, and Wharton counties and the greater Houston area. If you can reach us, we can help point you in the right direction.

What documents should I bring when I ask for benefits help?

Your DD-214 is the most important. Medical records and any prior VA letters are helpful too, but do not wait until everything is perfect — start the conversation and we will help you assemble the rest.

Is there a cost to get benefits guidance?

No. Post 200 members and County Veteran Service Officers provide guidance at no cost. Be cautious of anyone who charges large fees to file a basic claim.

How is the American Legion different from the VA?

The VA is the federal agency that provides benefits. The American Legion is a veterans organization that advocates for veterans and helps you access those benefits and community.

Can I get involved without a big time commitment?

Yes. Many members participate at whatever level fits their lives — a meeting here, an event there. Every bit of involvement strengthens the Post.
